Here's hoping for ice off soon!
by Steve o on Apr. 12, 2017
Well its spring again , Today is April 12/2017 a new season upon us for fishing enjoyment , I have not been out here since Nov 19/2016 and have just check on the fish stocking report , which has just updated for 2017 and no lakes or ponds has been stocked as of yet , I picked up my 2017 fishong license and looking forward to another great season of fishing , I also like to ask all who do enjoy fishing to keep our environment and our waters clean and clean up after yourself ,don't litter keep fishing line that get tangled picked up , and don't cut down any size trees so you can have a fire , use a repellant to rid bugs , dress warm or take extra clothing , and think that if I fly fish here cutting those dam tress down will help , well think about it look around there a lot of other places to fly fish without cutting more brush trees down , fish are never in one spot , and you can't whistle to them either ( PS) those who I do see others breaking these laws , I hope you call in a wildlife officer 780-427-3574 I hope this is the correct # , Thanks for reading I will report when this area has been restocked Steve O

by Riverbear on Apr. 10, 2017
It does say you have a duty to inform people of illegal activity. Turn in poachers make money. Bring a garbage bag, might find free stuff whilst cleaning. If you really like the spot keep it that way. Hate to leave with regrets
by NorthernYaker on Apr. 10, 2017
And unless you called in the poachers we don't want you there again either....

25 Rainbows today in three hours. Really disappointing to see all the garbage and cigarette butts on the ice and in the parking lot. The parkinglot has two large garbage cans?! They are BROWN in color, if you are having a hard time and or are confused. *Fish don't feed on fibreglass and tim hortons cups *
by Deadhooker69 on Feb. 19, 2017
Was here three times in the last week, only thing that has let me down are the humans.
People! pick up your f ing garbage, this is getting rediculous. What kind of example are you setting for the young people? Trout do not feed on cigarette butts!

Well all you anglers , I was out to try my luck since it was the best November 8th we had wittiness in years Temp was high of 19 C , it was very calm water that day , my buddy used a bobber , had nibblers but with no luck of a catch , I on the other hand as always rig my line with 30 inches from small hook with weight tied off , ,Caught a 11 inch , it had swallowed the hook as I always say I not for skuncked , ,even if I had got skunked , its always great to get out to fish, Oh forgotten to mention a very small full tailed fox ,tried to take my fish from behind me , So if you ever see the fox don't panic. He more afraid of you then you should be of him , Just shout he go away , its nice to see and have the wildlife near by us , keeps us all in touch of how teal our world really is , Thanks for reading enjoy the sport of fishing ,again I express try to pick up your litter and don't be cutting down the trees and starting fires. Dam if your coming out to fish wear extra clothing , it takes years to grow trees ,and for your lazy grass to dress for the occasion ,Thanks Steve o

Does anyone still fish At Cardiff in November?
by Steve o on Sep. 27, 2016
Hello again all , Before I start thanks for reading AWG,Well I not been on ifish for awhile now , But I have for sure been fishing ,and yes here at Cardiff , I only been skunked one night this month , but for all other times I have caught 1 to 3 fish and I can note they have been larger in size , since they have had 5 months to grow larger, The water level has dropped a lot , I not sure why I am thinking the pipe line I see being installed may be one , The weather has been awesome , ,The trout are still biting on whatever used , but I can say that as time has passed and the fish that were raised in a hatchreis , are now becoming more adapted to the wild for feeding ,so the sport fishing has began , The fish stock I can also say is doing very well, As each time I been there from mid afternoon until sunset ,had noticed a lot of jumping going on. Now for my pet peeves , And I hope that a Wild life game officers catches those in the acts of ,Cutting down the tree scurbs around the pond so they can fly fish , dam think people , there a lot of fly fishing areas without destroying the beauty of the park , Do you have fish for brains , fish swim around , and others who have camp fires on the shoreline of the ponds areas , I hope others reading this , can post a Emergency number for quick responds , For Cardiff Pond , and if you do , I myself will add it to my contact list , and maybe others to will follow ,well all happy fishing and looking forward to ice fishing , PS , as of my other postings , I have noticed I not seen anyone taken crawfish , but then again I not seen much in the water , maybe they been already fished out , but a reminder , those keep the pond clean , so let's not take them , Thanks Steve o

There are many, many places to fish from shore at Cardiff. You don't need a boat (no launch) or tube. There is also a small dock

September 3 rd arrived at 2 pm within first 10 minutes caught a average size , caught a total of 4 in 3 hours , weather 14 c , very windy , using orange power bait, 3 jumped my hook 😂over all , Not skunked , and another great day out doors fishing , Ehope these comments I write keep you interested in fishing , Steve o
September 1 st ,weather , windy , temp 19 c , water choppy. Time 2 pm , cast rod in using orange powerbaiit , hooked a 1-1/2 pounder ,to my surprise I not gotten skunk , weather patterns kept changing , fish stopped jumping , and hour into fishing hooked another good size fish , but dam it jumped the hook , oh well another great day fishing , enjoy Steve o
by Steve o on Aug. 29, 2016
August 29 the weather windy out , 19 c , not much jumping , got there around 3 pm stayed 3 hours ,was using power eggs ,marshmallows , not one wee nibble , thought maybe its the weather , which might of been , was told by another angler , that told me they are biting on worms , next time out I may try bait. Anyways thanks for reading. Enjoyed the day out , Steve o

August 21 st , and got here around noon noticed fish jumping as I walked into the park , water was calm but the weather was also 25 c , Fished for 3 hours , not a bite , humm I said , another great day of summer fishing , asked others as I left if they caught any , the answers were no , noticed that the pond has dropped water level around 2 feet , but rain has been forecasted for the next two days , Fishing will improve , and as a angular if I not caught it today , it will be bigger in size the next time I am out here enjoy all , Steve o
by Steve o on Aug. 20, 2016
Well folks I was here on august 20 the , caught 3 , The weather was suprizing cool out around 4:30 pm was not suppose to rain , well when it did the fish started to jump but stopped biting altogether , Today Saturday august 20 th , came out around noon , weather was hot around 25 c ,and very windy , caught two , but humm one jumped my hook , sadly to mention , oh well just another day out fishing , My views on this pond is , There is fish in these waters ,but they like to make you wait with patience , that's the sport of it all , Happy fishing, Steve o
by Droc01 on Aug. 19, 2016
To all anglers. Call fish and game if you see anything. Even if it is legal in the end. They love to give info to ppl and educate them. It's part of there job and most enjoy it. As to the law breaks. don't cross my path.
by Steve o on Aug. 18, 2016
I think the people of cardiff , do a great job at keeping this park pond clean and very groomed grounds of the park , The stocked rainbow are a very clean fish , My outlook as a angler , That for others who fish this site , should respect the water the park in keeping it clean and tidy , so the years to come others can enjoy it as well , Rules and Fines maybe should be issued to those who wreck the beauty of this wonderful site , The goverment should write the fishing rules in all immigrant languages , so their no excuses used when you see some taken buckets of small bait fish , Which I can't say for sure what theydo with them , but looking around after they have left leaves me to believe that they make a bait chum from them and toss it into the pond with a line attach , Leaving me again to guess , its used to attract raindow fish around it , so they can catch fish without the sport of patience involved in catching fish , To me those who do this is not fishing but poaching fish, A hefty fine should be placed upon those who break the law as well , As I have mentioned keeping the water from litter and the grounds , Now on crawfish hummm , they again should be left in the water for these keep the water clean , not be taken out for food , Think about it , you need hundreds to fill a family , , Now for the fishing itself I find patience and weather plays a huge roll catching fish , Some days you catch one which I call not getting skunked , the size range from 9 inch to 14 inch , myself if the fish not swallowed the whole hook I release it , on the other hand if its over 15 inch in lenght I keep , You will noticed that the fish are very clean and not muddy tasting , So please report poachers and those who litter the waterway and grounds . Thanks for reading my comments , maybe you too can leave your comments on those who break the laws

patd i'm an immigrant and just caught 15 with my 2 boys yesterday all catch and release , using dry flies we dont eat stocked rainbow trout i think it taste nasty but that's just my own opinion , dont be racist if someone is keeping his/her limit then that's within their rights as long as they have a license. you know the licenses everyone gets some portion of what we pay does get allocated to the stocking program, so without the licenses everyone pays for do you think we would have any stocked ponds ?, you know stocked rainbows doen't re-produce and alot of it dies from summer/winter kills , if you see a poacher whether an immigrant or not just report them . Immigrants have helped out building this great country as well isn't everyone an immigrant unless you're native
by sedubius on Jul. 18, 2016
@patd you just hit a bad night. I was out last night and caught over 20 in 2h on a prince nymph. Later into august it gets the worse the fishing seems to get as well.
by CrazyPhD on Jul. 11, 2016
So you mean the immigrants fished out this pond?
by patd on Jul. 11, 2016
Usually not the type to buy into it when people say a place is fished out but now I get it. I fished here mid June and caught and released my limit four times in two hours. Fished here today and in three hours I had one fish rise for a green drake. Saw maybe ten rise the entire time I was there and not one person along shore landed one. The immigrants have fished out another good pond!
by lotksie on Jun. 18, 2016

by Droc01 on Apr. 12, 2016
Awesome. Thanks guys. Is it only rainbows in it
by NorthernYaker on Apr. 12, 2016
Droc, was out the other night for a couple hours, landed about 6, 10"ers on a small spoon.
by LRD V8R on Apr. 12, 2016
Hey Droc1. It is a great pond for kids as there are many shore locations to do easy casting from. There is even a dock. And if the kids get bored they can fish from the dock for crayfish. :-) Go for rainbows. Bobber and worm work good. So do pickerel rigs with Powerbait. And at times the action can be non-stop with a fly rod and mosquito pattern during the summer at sun down
Has any one been catching anything yet. Never tried this pond and would love to take my kids to it. What's all in it?
by LRD V8R on Apr. 11, 2016
NorthernYaker 11m is pretty close to your 34 ft, but I have noticed the water level has dropped over the past few years.
by NorthernYaker on Apr. 11, 2016

by LRD V8R on Apr. 9, 2016

1/2oz sinker will sink at @ 1ft per second, Now if they counted for 90 seconds then it would be @90 ft
by sedubius on Apr. 9, 2016
I donno, Ive heard some people claim they give it a 20 second count for their weight to hit bottom when bottom fishing
by NorthernYaker on Apr. 4, 2016
Alot of myths about the depth with this place. The Pond is only @30ft max depth and only over 20 in a couple sections, been all over pond with a fishfinder.
by Mercer on Apr. 4, 2016
Spring fishing near. Went out to check it out yesterday and there was about 2-4 ft of open water around the edges. When I went to the dock it had about a foot and I put my hand down to check the ice it's about 4 inches left. I'd say by the weekend you should Atleast be able to get a line in the water.
by sedubius on Mar. 19, 2016
@LRD they never aerate Cardiff as at around 90ft deep there is no need. Also the ACA has stopped most aeration programs due to a loophole in the laws regarding lake aeration.

On several occasions over the past year (including today), I've tried fishing here over the lunch-break and at sunset - but have never caught anything yet.
There's certainly lots of small trout jumping at sunset, but I've never managed to land any yet.
It's a great spot for shore-fishing, with fairly steep drop-offs without a need to fear losing your lures in the weeds!
One of these times I'll get one... :)

by Dak1138 on Jun. 29, 2014
Went out early today. It was dark and windy. Had several bites and refusals and landed 3. They were interested in my "orange indicator fly" but none took it. Did have some take the dropper after refusing the indicator. Better day than normal for me here. A guy did get a bite on a red devil from the dock on my way out.

by Bin Drinkin on May. 31, 2014
Been here a couple times in the last week, No bites at all. I use a mepps spinner.
by scarab70 on May. 25, 2014
We use worms, but also shrimp, marshmallows, powerbait on a hook. Setup is bobber and a couple of weights. Seen others use no bobber just worn on a hook.
They started biting north of the dockside. Small thouvgh.
by Cushdee on May. 25, 2014
Can someone tell me what bait or lure your using or can use down Cardiff? Thinking of going down in a few weeks seems like a lovely park!
by Calvo05 on May. 24, 2014
Nice park, no fish! Been around the lake and had no nibbles or any sign of fish.

by Bin Drinkin on Feb. 3, 2014
I've heard years ago there was perch in here. I've been fishing this pond for years and never caught any perch. I think they only stock it with trout. It be nice if they'd put perch in here.
by iFish Guest on Jan. 29, 2014

What do you mean docks? I have never seen any docks at cardiff. Any truth to the rumors that both Cardiff and Morinville reservoir have perch again?
by iFish Guest on Jun. 10, 2013
Went out yesterday, overcast to rain and they were biting! First the docks then on the otherside. Some small ones we released back, but a couple were at least 30 cm.
by Cajed1 on Jun. 6, 2013
Dosent winterkill very often at all...
by Oly on Jun. 6, 2013
Depending on the winter, some fish may survive as I have caught large trout in the spring. Perch too. The problem at Cardiff are the lawn chair bait anglers who harvest every fish regardless of size leaving nothing behind but a pile of cigarette butts and Tim Horton cups.
by Schnidy on Jun. 6, 2013
They don't make flies small enough for these fish!! Lol why would they stock such small fish in a pond that winter kills every year?
by iFish Guest on Jun. 4, 2013
Went out tonight, lots rising and jumping but they are still tiny. No luck thus far.
by iFish Guest on Jun. 3, 2013
Theyre biting and getting bigger.

by iFish Guest on May. 9, 2013
Was out for 2-3 hours today, it was really windy and didnt catch anything :( but good news is that the pond was being stocked as we got there. Talked to the guy doing it and he said it was 15 000 this year
how is spring fishing in Cardiff? Anyone know?
by iFish Guest on Mar. 8, 2013
anyone know if you can do some shorefishing or is it iced over
by JohnnyD on Jan. 4, 2013
2-3 hours yesterday and same today. Tried swirl tail jigs of various colours and sizes and two different types of Power Bait. Got the odd nibble here and there but no luck. Saw one guy land a couple, but that was it. 14" ice, with a bit of flood water in some places.

by derekwuzhere on Sep. 17, 2012
Yes you are allowed boats in. The only thing I am not sure about is electric motors. No gas motors for sure and I think everything else is just fine.
by scarab70 on Sep. 17, 2012
Saturday , did not bite til' late afternoon and before sundown. Sunday were ther all day, but only caught two. Seems like everyone I talked to was having no luck either.
by Dickweed on Sep. 15, 2012
Im fairly sure u cab use a Belly boat, drift boat and kayaks unless it says otherwise with some sort of signage, i think the only stupulation is no gas motors on some lake but im pretty sure if the watercraft is wind or muscular powered u should be ok... Im not 100% on that but fairly sure.. Thats jus my 2 cents im no CO tho.
by Curt j on Sep. 15, 2012
Can somebody tell me if float tubes/ kayaks are allowed on pond. Thanks

by Mozknowz on Sep. 8, 2012
We were there on Sept 7, jumping like crazy, flying fishin was netting a few o the bigger ones for one guy, no luck on spoons, bobbers or jigs, but when the sun went down a bit, at dusk, the double glow green spoon got hit like crazy, the darker it got the better they were biting.... Some 10" others to small but still fun

by Wade on May. 20, 2012
Went out about two weeks ago. Easy access to the pond with lots of place to cast. Caught a few about 12inches and 1 about 16inches. Great place if you want to wet a line and don't have the time to drive 45mins, great place to take the kids.
by HowGoesTheFishing on May. 16, 2012
Good small pond. Been out to it a couple of times, always a nice area and not terrible fishing. Never seen any perch but quite a few small stocked rainbows. Once in a while you can catch a good size rainbow that hasn't winter killed. Lots of fish jumping. Caught 4 small 6 or 7 inch throw back rainbows in the middle of may.
by Goldeyes on May. 11, 2012
Used small spinners near the choke point on south side point. Caught 4 tiny trout in an hour, and 1 panfish, thought thoses were winter killed.
by waybue on May. 10, 2012
Saw a ton of activity last week, just went out to try my gear with my mother in law. No luck, but quite a few hits and tastes. Stupid fish!
by Schnidy on May. 7, 2012
Was walking the dog there yesterday and out of the dozen people I asked only one guy had caught a fish. It was about a 9 inch trout
by Crash on May. 4, 2012
I am glad there was at least one left in the pond lol. Perhaps it was the one trout that i saw during the winter while looking down thru a hole in the ice. Is the ice completely off the pond yet? Somehow i doubt there are any perch in here as i didnt see any dead perch, only dead trout.
by Brotschi on May. 3, 2012
Three of us went out on April 29 for about 3 hours. Caught one on a 5 of diamonds, but not even a bite after that. So didn't winter kill but it wasn't good.
We used both spinning and fly rods
by Crash on Apr. 28, 2012
Ice is still on the majority of the pond. Seems to have winter killed. Saw at least 8 dead fish along the edges in the water. Caught nothing.
Is cardiff have ice on it still
by Ogimos on Jan. 25, 2012

Was there today fly fishing between 12-4pm, not even a single bite. Nice place to practice casting though.!
by Mr.K on Jul. 9, 2011
Good pond for practicing fly fishing. I think it winterkilled this year , so nothing too big in there.Like most ponds it gets slow in the summer and can be weedy in spots but still lots of open shoreline to cast from. Not sure why it is getting low scores.
by iwilliamm on Jun. 23, 2011
Lots of small trout, love live bait :) Fun for the kids
by Jason and Jenna on Jun. 11, 2011
We are from west end and it took us only 25 mins to get out there, a nice place well hidden. We had not much luck pulling anything up for the 5 hours stay. Side note...don't wear a black cap like I did cause there are not too much shaded area. Will try one more time later in summer.
by Boognish on May. 24, 2011
Terrible pond! Weedy and very few fish.
by Lazerloop on Apr. 16, 2011
