Out January 17 about a foot of ice no bits could see them though

by bender79 on Dec. 29, 2018
Talked to a guy fishing there and he said there's 6 inches of ice. He caught 4 12 inchers and threw them back. Looks like there was at least 1 idiot driving on the ice already. Wouldn't catch me driving on it yet, weather has been too mild for thick ice.

by th3count on Dec. 27, 2018
anyone driving yet?
by iFish Guest on Dec. 23, 2018
14 inches of ice, slush underneath. 8 inches fresh snow. 5 hours nothing moving, 1bite

Ice Report: 12 in
12 inches by dam

by thatalbertaguy on Jan. 3, 2018
Spent a couple hours there, caught nothing but one guy caught about 10 tiny trout, 6 inches and under, and 1 decent sized brookie. Not sure why they are so small if it was stocked in the spring...

About 1 inch of ice/water cover near spillway on top of ice. Decent ice below, lots of snow cover

Out ice fishing for the first time this year, caught 20 brookies, ice is not very good. Lots of top soft areas with water underfoot, the weir is still flowing, be very cautious

Straight out from the weir about 50 yards, some areas have a top layer of slush and water above the ice. Still ify

Finnaly bagged a Brookie! Looked very similiar to a Bull Trout....there is no Bull trout there is there? Released all the same :-)

by bender79 on Mar. 2, 2016
Lots of good ice yet prob about 20". Nothing melting at all. No luck catching any Brookies tho.

by bender79 on Feb. 24, 2016
Anyone know if there's still fishable ice?

by Chubz777 on Jan. 24, 2016

Using minnows had bites like crazy but, they kept biting part of minnow with no hook. Had one on the line. Was trout of a lifetime. And broke my line. If you catch a fish with a silver and red Williams lure. That's the guy.

Solid ice, depth taken by the spillway

Caught 4 very nice trout in about 5 minutes then not a bite till we left. We were fishing from shore and it's hard to find a place to cast. The water is quite low so the weeds are an issue.

I thing the main question here is what are people catching the Brook Trout on in this lake, which flies, what, bait, what hard lures? Would be nice if some people shared so others could catch some of these picky fish.

by cashtheviper on Aug. 15, 2015
if you fish a lake for 8 hours in a canoe and use everythin in your tackle box you would think you would catch something. But i guess not

I've heard Michelle still has ice on it and that's just outside the park, so can't imagine spruce will be open water yet either... That being said, I haven't seen it with my own eyes yet so not sure.

by Thokle22 on Mar. 30, 2015
Is the lake frozen still?

by bender79 on Feb. 18, 2015
was out ice fishing a month back. the water was crystal clear. ran into a guy that said if you go out past the first point on the right there are walleye. i fished for 4 hours and could see lots of brooks swimming past the hole, sitting infront of the hook and watching but none would take. all seemed to be a good size at least 16"

by Fishquest on Feb. 16, 2015
Ganderlake, I've never heard of anyone ever catching walleye in spruce. I'd be very surprised to hear that someone has. Also never heard of grayling being caught either. Perhaps they've all died.

by Ganderlake on Feb. 1, 2015
Has anyone ever caught a walleye out of here. Only thing I have caught was brook trout

You maybe looking to catch something, but from what i've seen and heard whatever you catch you'll just end up throwing it back ........

Great Lake to kayak. Spent a couple of nights in the campground caught lots of 20 to 25cm brook trout. Have caught larger early in May.

by Thokle22 on Jun. 29, 2014
caught 12 fish in just over two hours great lake

by Fishquest on Jun. 29, 2014
Awesome little lake to canoe around on. Been catching lots of brook trout. Apparently grayling here, but haven't seen or heard of anyone catching any.

by bender79 on Mar. 12, 2014
Was out ice fishing on Mar 7, 2014. Ice was about 2 feet thick with about a foot of snow ontop. Fished in about 10 feet of water and landed 2 decent size Brook trout, the bigger one being 17.5 inches. Had plenty of bites and interest. Some small fish in the lake that appeared to be 6-8 inches along with plenty of massive fish swimming by comparable to the size you will find in Bullshead Rainbows. Caught mine on a grey jighead fly. Only downside was both fish had a "black spot" parasite under the skin which makes them unappealing to eat. Will be throwing them back from now on. Definitely going back after ice off to get some if those monsters on the fly.

No bites. Pulled a truck out that was stuck

by Saladorm on Sep. 9, 2013
Went camping there this past weekend and spent all day saturday casting from the dock and dam sides. not one bite but i still had fun, throughout the day about 18 other people came to try their luck, not ond person had a bite. there was a sign saying they dumped 4k arctic greyling in the lake too due to flooding. would try fishing there again cause it so nice.

by stainer4 on Feb. 3, 2013

by Joe on Jan. 13, 2012
Lots of good pan friers catching fish steady on jigs and dewworms

by Flyfishingnut on Jun. 15, 2011
been to spurce coulee a couple of times and some good luck, I caught about six brook trout with a average size of 3lbs with biggest one weighing in at 3lb10oz, all were caught in tight to the weed beds on flies. if your someone that wants big trout and aren't worried if you don't catch lots of fish this lake is a good spot for you
