Spinners work well just after Windchill is stocked. After 2 months of stocking Powerbait will work very well. The West end of Windchill is much much deeper and won't freeze over during winter so some rainbows should easily survive the winter. After you catch your first rainbow, clean your fish in the boat loading area. This will attract lots of leeches which you can use for natural bait.

Someone lost a fishing rod here during the summer within the last couple of years. If you can describe how you lost it and what brand and series it is, I may have good news for you.

by Bob Troutman on Sep. 1, 2021
Total victim of summerkill over July and August 2021. No live trout in there now - earliest restock will be May 2022.

Was there last night for a few hours. Little ones jumping everywhere and hitting anything grey on the surface. Caught and released about seven, none bigger than my hand. Gonna be a while til they get big enough to keep.

by Lakechaser on Jun. 4, 2019
They stocked it with 4800 5%u201D two weeks ago, but I haven't seen any fish jumping there either.

by Bigheaddoug on Jun. 4, 2019
Congrats that's a big fish for that lake. Any sign that they have stocked it yet?
by Handy1990 on Jan. 2, 2019

Wondering how the fishin is at Winchell lake these days, and how thick the ice is?
by JamesF on Oct. 29, 2018
Fished from 11:30_3:00 today. Didnt see any action (two others flyfishing, two using bait.) Ufortunately had to leave just as the day warmed up. Skiff of ice on the south (shady side) of the lake. Aerator in operation.

Out there today, nothing. Not a swirl, a rise (although there were small bugs hatching), or any hits. Dead calm

by Bigheaddoug on Oct. 15, 2018

Looks like they are doing some upgrading at the lake. Fixed the road this summer, recently put up a sign and now they are aerating the lake. Only the east end and very far west end are accessible as the two aerators take up pretty much the middle section of the lake. Lots of open water. Be careful.

by JennaB on Jun. 13, 2016
What a cute little lake. Had 30 nibbles and bites, caught 3, just small guys. Other people I was with caught one each. My first time here, what a beautiful little place. That road coming down in though was terrible. My poor car.

Can anyone suggest a bait to use on this lake? (Ice fishing) Thanks

by Lakechaser on Sep. 26, 2015
I'm sure any brother fisherman who frequents this lake will share my condolences to Bob Leblaw who's house overlooking the lake burnt to the ground. The house and all of its contents were completely destroyed by the fire. Fortunately everyone got out safely.

by Skinner66 on Mar. 2, 2015
Fished for 5 hours, had a few bites no fish made it onto the ice.

by FisherFred on Feb. 14, 2015
Fished there for 4 hours today. Not a sniff. The weather was great and I was the only one on the ice. Ice was 14 to 16 inches thick with 4-6 inches of snow on top.
by Slappy Fish on May. 6, 2022
Be vigilant if finishing here. The season is about to start again. Don't be leaving fish waste around if your are cleaning them here as grizzlies and cougars are active in this area.
