Sofal you been back? Anyone else fishing the lake?

by Sophal on Dec. 22, 2016
Lots of bait fish swimming around, so Lakers weren't too interested in what we were offering. Lots of activity on the fish finder but then would move else where, chasing the bait fish. Extremely difficult lake to fish.

Is bait fish allowed in this lake? Herring and smelts? Regulations seem to contradict and confuse.

I heard a rumour that the lake is thawed in some places. Has anyone seen it? Is the boat launch clear of ice yet? Looking somewhere with water to test some winter repairs to my boat.

Hey Fish Nuts, was that you on SS Monster?

Not too bad yesterday afternoon. Trolled around and caught a small laker along the shore then a nice brown near the boat launch at the end of the night

The lake is blown out from the heavy rains. Very high and muddy with lots of driftwood. Be alert if you are boating. I am going to wait for it to clear up before I venture it.

Love this lake clean clear and deep. Good action off of lake trout every time I go out. The rainbows can be large but sporadic. Whitefish are plentifull if you know how to target them with lite lines and in the shallower water 20 to 30 feet.

The fish are definately in there. Fished Crowsnest for the first time today, for probably 6 hours. I moved around 3 times; caught 3 whitefish with maggots (all JUST under 30cm so I couldn't keep them), 1 nice rainbow with a meal worm (only fish I kept), and 2 Lake Trout with 5 of diamonds & smelt. The lake trout were caught around 75ft. Decent amount of action! I plan on coming here more, I got a good taste of what lurks beneath the ice!

This is my hometown lake, and one of my favorite places to fish, I'm out here regularly whether it's winter or summer, if you plan on goof out on the ice my advice would be to never drive out no matter how thick the ice appears, and even auger check every 10 feet or so this lake has a lot of natural springs feeding into it and quite often has a lot of open water even in minus 40 so be careful out there best way to get the big lakers which I assure you there are plenty of is to get into the 60-80 feet of water on the east side of the lake.
