19 inch of ice down scenic sands road, few pike on camera but no bites yet

by Keela on Jan. 16, 2019
Went fishing Jan 14 and seen 15 Jacks in the camera. Only caught 2 that were not big enough.
by Allsky on Jan. 15, 2019
Its definitely gone down since last winter, over by scenic sands village. Last winter you would see a lot of jack and Burbot, normally went 9-4. Went today from 11-4, saw 2 fish that tested hooks but no real action. (Pun intended lol)
by Fishingforfun1994 on Jan. 13, 2019
Was steady flow of fish , weren’t biting to hard but enough to make it fun
View on Map

by Erin on Jan. 11, 2019

by Dodgedesil on Mar. 14, 2018
Can I get on the lake with a fishing trailer?

by Erin on Feb. 20, 2018
Senic all weekend pulled 10-15 every afternoon. Kids loved it.

by 623065 on Feb. 19, 2018
Slow fishing east of narrows windy day to be fishing

by Erin on Feb. 17, 2018
Usually Rochan sands bay well traveled. Some locals plow with side by side n such. Senic sands usually traveled and accessible. If it's deep I will be out with bobcat tonight. Good fishing!!!!!

by rx on Feb. 14, 2018
Heard a lot of lakes north of Edmonton have too much snow to drive on the lake. Has anyone driven their truck on Buffalo Lake recently? If so, where would you recommend accessing from?

by 623065 on Feb. 11, 2018
Fishing east of narrows fishing slow today but great weather

by Cajed1 on Feb. 1, 2018
Not overkill at all. You have a much better chance of getting large pike than the guy who's seriously undergunned with 20lb flouro.

by Spewy on Feb. 1, 2018
100lb is overkill. But when you have a pike take your 20$ crankbait cause he bit through your leader it doesnt seem so

by Capper27 on Jan. 31, 2018
I personally think 100lb test is 100% overkill. I use 10-15lb power pro ice teck and then change my leader depending o. Species I'm after. Perch/walleye- 8lb flourcarbon (4ft leader). Lakers 16-20lb flourcarbon (4-6ft leader). Pike tend to be less particular to line but I still use flourcarbon leader 20lb. Tie a swivel to your main line then tie on your leader. On a %u201Chot day%u201D line size/Color will not effect your productiveness but on slow days you would be amazed at the difference a flourcarbon leader can have on results. In fairness Never used 50 or 100lb line so I'm not sure what to say about effectiveness but I do know I always outfish the guy who has cheap mono for line.

by fishing in canada on Jan. 31, 2018
Hey thanks for the help guess I'll go out and get some heavier stuff
by Spewy on Jan. 31, 2018
An viynl coated 50lb tip up line on my tip ups. Id rather straighten a hook or have them pull out then have a pike bite through my leader or line. No worse feeling than loosing a picture worthy fish to inadequate tackle

by Spewy on Jan. 31, 2018
Terminal tackle is key. I use 100 lb fluro leaders. Good swivels. Mist fish are lost trying to get their head up the hole. I use 50lb braid on my rod and adjust the drag so i dont break my rod. Most people dont catch big fish cause their under gunned. Not cause they cant hook them

by fishing in canada on Jan. 30, 2018
its the 10lb ice braided line, same as the black stuff just orange but thanks for the tip. think it was getting cut on the bottom of the hole just not use to pike this big yet.

by Capper27 on Jan. 30, 2018
Nothing wrong with 10lb line in my opinion. Lots of factors. Knot tying, drag, weather, leaders, type of line.....

by Weeman on Jan. 30, 2018
Hey maybe use your brain and use thick ice line like the black stuff instead of breaking 10lb line on fish, Come on people get the proper equipment before going

by Spewy on Jan. 30, 2018
Got 6 burbs and 4 keeper pike before lunch sunday
by Capper27 on Jan. 30, 2018
I’ve only fished the lake twice this year but fished the exact same areas you just mentioned. The bay you speak of is full of huts so I imagine people do well there but I didn’t catch anything. We moved out of the bay along the shore towards the island and did really well. Found a transition from 3ft of water to 6ft and set up there. Keep moving around and keep trying. I’m my limited experience you are in an area that produces fish.

by fishing in canada on Jan. 30, 2018
and does any one know if there's any fish in the delburne lakes, im probably going to try the northern section tomorrow and no depths on navionics so any help would be appreciative

by fishing in canada on Jan. 30, 2018
fished at Rochon sands for the past couple days inbetween the dock and island and just outside the cove to the south, seen only four small pike and five monsters, only landed one small guy and broke my line twice, got 10lb line on and still broke with leaders._still new to the area any recommendations on better spots on the lake?__ps if anyone finds a tone of lures ive lost a few lol

by Weeman on Jan. 28, 2018
Fished Senic today slower than The 2nd coming of Christ seen a few

by Keela on Nov. 14, 2017
Has anyone walked out on the ice yet? Thx.
by iFish Guest on Aug. 17, 2017
Summer fishing on that side of the lake is poor in summer. To shallow. Too many weeds.

by Timidhc on Aug. 10, 2017
Tried fishing the Narrows for the first time this morning. No bites from shore or from our canoe until we made it out to the main lake. Then we had one single bite but it came off. Any tips? It was our first time at Buffalo and we'd like to come back and catch some fish next time.

by Tysant on Jul. 29, 2017
Fishing was good today. Out for 3.5 hours. Caught 9 pike. Largest 5lbs and only 2 were under keeper size.

by Kodiak5545 on Jul. 26, 2017

by CraftBeerLover on Mar. 26, 2017
Absolutely no one at Rochon Sands. Little Leary to try it

by Boudar on Mar. 26, 2017
Anyone have an Ice report for Rochon Sands? Thanks guys!!

by Weeman on Mar. 26, 2017
Catch and release at the narrows, but once your out past the two white poles in the mouth than its fair game to keep pike and burbot all to the other end of the lake just the narrows is where you have to put them back

by Albertafisherman on Mar. 25, 2017
I see some people saying they are keeping the pike but I just looked at the regs and it says this lake is catch and release only for both pike and burbot

by CraftBeerLover on Mar. 25, 2017
Does anyone know the thickness at Buffalo lake right now?

by Keela on Mar. 17, 2017
Thanks for the info!

by Weeman on Mar. 16, 2017

by Boudar on Mar. 8, 2017
Anyone know how the ice is at Rochon?

by Northernangler on Feb. 22, 2017
Soupster92 the ice is over 24inches thick as I I drive across the lake from the north side to the narrows on Monday afternoon. Just watch out for the ice heaves on some areas but there's still lots of ice.

by Soupster92 on Feb. 22, 2017
Hey I'm planning on going to Buffalo tomorrow just wondering how much ice is out there because tonight Gull had some sketchy cracks so we're looking for a break from that. So if anyone knows please let me know how much Ice is out there. Thanks

by J OSullivan on Dec. 21, 2016
Got out to Rochon sands twice in the last week, had great luck both times. Couldn't get our hooks down fast enough for the jack. Seen a few monsters stalking our holes but, there's a reason they're that big. 18" of good solid ice there.

by Spewy on Dec. 18, 2016
19" of ice at riders. Tip up fishing. Need skates. Pretty slick without any snow. Might be a mirage or an ice heave between here and scenic sands

by kencan on Dec. 17, 2016

Anyone have an Ice report?

by Jay0476 on Feb. 21, 2016
How's the fishing been? Haven't been out for a couple of weeks.

by Drake870 on Feb. 14, 2016
Fished Scenic sands today. Good ice. Fishing was very slow. Caught 2 pike in 3 hours. Nobody was catching anything today.

by FishinHeathen on Feb. 13, 2016
The pike are biting good. Having better luck in the murkier water from scenic to the west, using smelts, spoons, and lipless crankbaits. Iced 7 today and lost about as many, 2 keeper size. Ice varies from 14"-20", and is very solid.

by Emorrison014 on Jan. 31, 2016
thickness is around 2 ft we drilled through it yesterday.

by Littlelegs2 on Jan. 31, 2016
I am heading out there I need to know how thick the ice is can anyone shed some light on it for me , thanks

by Toad9414 on Jan. 30, 2016
What's the ice thickness like these days?

by Emorrison014 on Jan. 27, 2016
I would say if you don't have a hut you should be 20 - 30 feet from the closest shack. I honestly don't really like people fishing any closer. You are compromising their fishing etc. Be courteous of the perment shacks etc. You have a whole lake to fish :)

by Fishingmike on Jan. 26, 2016
Released 10 pike today.

by BobtheBuilder on Jan. 26, 2016
Ask yourself if you were inside the hut, how close would you want someone fishing to you

by Boudar on Jan. 26, 2016
Can anyone answers this question for me? I fish a lot and I go where the huts are ( I don't have a hut). What is the unwritten rule of how close to someone's hut I would be ok setting up?

by Littlelegs2 on Jan. 23, 2016
I am heading out there today can anyone tell me the ice thickness

by DaveyG on Jul. 21, 2015

Fished all weekend and it was great. Eight fish Saturday. 12 on Sunday, two were Burbot. Used smelts on a treble hook about 8-10 inches off the bottom. Couldn't have asked for a better long weekend.

by BlueJay on Feb. 5, 2015
How is the ice near the narrows?

by Keela on Jan. 27, 2015
One Jack we caught had ate a small one but the other one we seen was as big as a Jack. Lol. They get huge!

by Rapalaroland on Jan. 27, 2015
Mud puppies would be harmless in that lake the pike would eat them up

by Keela on Jan. 27, 2015
Mudpuppies spend their entire lives underwater and are distinguished as the only salamanders that make sound—a dog-like barking.

by Keela on Jan. 27, 2015
No it is not a burbot. I seen a mudpuppy the other day from Buffalo Lake.

by google on Jan. 26, 2015
if you're talking burbot, they're pretty big predators, but I don't think they can wipe out the mature pike. Mature burbot eat smaller fish, including young northerns.

by Icefishnguy on Jan. 26, 2015
I just saw a picture of a big ol mud puppy caught in Buffalo last week. I've been told that they can decimate a lake - wipe out all the fish. Can anyone comment on that?

by FishinHeathen on Jan. 24, 2015

Fished for about an hour in the afternoon and a couple more later in the evening. I ended up bringing in 4 decent size pike, however the wife kick my butt by bringing in a dozen. We were trolling back and forth just to south east of Pelican Point on the south side of the island in water 6-10' deep.
by bruno27 on Jun. 6, 2014
I use those rubber fish call storm you get them from walt mart or canadian tire they are a small pike between 3 to 6 inch usually 6 inch work better at buffalo lake or black and white spoon get the job done

by MattyO on Feb. 17, 2014

by WG Quader on Feb. 16, 2014
I'm planing to go ice fishing next weekend with my sweet but need to know where's a good location, is the ice drive able, I'm guessing smelts are the bait of choice? If anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated...Thanks. \\ Fish On //
