Don't bother going to this lake. Was out today and there were guys setting up nets. The guy walked right into our setup and just drilled a hole within 5 feet of us. Brutal. This lake does not have many fish as it is and now it's being netted???? How is this allowed.

Just so everyone knows.... I was on the lake in early October and caught several keeper size pike. There was very little pressure there this past summer as the lake was recovering from winter kill, but there are lots of pike around the bible camp!! Not sure of the perch situation.

Lake not dead yet. Went out on new years and dropped camera. Seen fish. They just wouldn't bite. Probably to afraid to. Can't blame them after the last couple of years of being massacred. Lol

Was out on Sunday drilled a couple holes; dropped the camera down but didn't see anything. Not a vehicle to be seen on the lake. I'm hoping it makes a rebound but can't see it bouncing back anytime soon.

6-8" of ice. At least 3-4" of slushy flood water on top. No fish. Lots of shiners and stickleback on the camera, not one perch or pike seen in 1hr fishing. Camera visibility poor, 2' vis at best. Looks like the lake is still In recovery mode

aug 2014 fished the dead lake no bites ...seen alot of minnows jumping im sure small perch will be there next time bring aquavue camera

Don't even bother trying, it's a dead lake, I'll try again in 2-3yrs. out on sat. About 30 or so people on the ice not a single nibble between them all.

In the middle by the island 7 feet of water

I was out on Sat for 3 hours and did not get a nibble. I did hear that the lake had winter kill. There was no one driving on the lake and approx 15 huts. I chatted with one fellow who lives on the lake and said it was poor since walking on.

Was out on jan.10. Wasted 3hrs that I'll never get back.I'll now wait 5yrs to go back and try again. :-(

as per many residents of Lake Nakamun not one fish caught all summer. Time to find somewhere else to drop your hooks this winter

It is officially no fish lake again spent all last weekend fishing and nothing. Dropped a camera down and saw lots of dead fish. Oh well give it five years and it will be back

Don't be surprised about it winter killed... Live close fished whole life.. Every 5 years it winter kills due to being a small shallow lake and heavy snowfalls... Needs to be airaided

Went out on Sunday morning. Had a great day, between 3 of us we limited in 4 hrs. My husband and I kept 10 for dinner, my cousin kept only 6. No need to keep anything if u don't plan on eating. It was a fun day, lots of action. 3 weeks ago we only caught 2 threw them back and left. It all depends on the day. Gotta take the bad with the good. We also seen a lot of pikes and caught 2 that were hilarious in size. Not even 7 inches but it was fun as they are vicious little buggers. My cat wouldn't even be interested LOL!! This lake has been over fished this winter was great early in the season but with over a hundred vehicles on the lake during the day on weekends the fishing has declined severely

Oops, wrong lake, thought I was typing about Cross. It was Cross I got stuck on. Too much snow and flood water. Could be a treacherous drive on this weekend if the weather remains warm!

I went out for most of the day Sunday, 2nd one out on the lake and got stuck! Thanks to the two gentlemen from the Gibbons area for giving me a hand. When I did settle in to fishing, hammered the heck out of the perch, enough keepers for a good feed !

An excellent place to take kids. We caught dozens of small perch and they showed on camera all day. Few we're of any size but the point for us was getting the kids involved in fishing and it worked!

Many, many perch on the aquaview, 2-6" perch all day, maggots, mealworms, and every color and hook in the box couldn't entice a steady bite. 10 jack on tip-ups, no keepers. Slow day on the hard water.

Great day on the lake today! Took the kids out and smashed perch all day. Think I caught 40 myself..most were around 6-8" but kept a few bigger ones. Nice to have a day with non stop action!

Ya thats true rapala. If that was explained more in the regs maybe people would think to diversify more than decimating the population that replenishes . There are ways but its not very reliable. Look it up on google there features to watch for . Males and females supposedly have a diffrent anus.

All the big ones are usaully females. It's very rare u get a big male.

I agree rapalaroland some people have no idea how the reproductive cycle of a perch works. Males and females reach maturity and diffrent ages and a perch takes 2-3 years to mature. So diversity is better take a few big ones but how about releasing some of the breeders back in. Why do you think they have walleye slot sizes? Same diffrence

Yeah cause it makes a lot if sense to keep all the big perch which are your female spawners. Instead of harvesting one 6 inch fish from the lake u take a 12 incher full of eggs and havest thousands of fish. GREAT CONSERVATION!!

No luck on perch, too pany pike around. Landed a few, but just one keeper at around 5 lbs. Ice was 24" thick.

Perhaps best catch and release lake in all of Alberta for all sizes? Historical studies suggest Nakumun has a higher mercury content than most other lakes. Don't know how much truth to that, but did manage to catch a 22 pound, 37 inch pike a few years back.

New to Edm area an I wanna take the girl out perch fishing. Just wondering where the best access is onto the lake, and if anyone has any good spots? Gotta impress the girl haha. Thanks alot

I fully agree outdoorsman. As much as i hate govt interfering in things I think it's time for F & W to impose restriction to perch sizes if nothing else works! I love taking my son out to see excitement in his eyes to actually catch something.

Fishin was great this weekend but i have to say this...people that fish and keep little perch under 6" should be shot...iv seen with my own eyes people fishing right beside me keepin little perch under 6"...come on..give your head a shake...thats one good reason why lakes get fished out in a year or two.........

Hey shelterless, I haven't gone for trout around town just the predators, usually go to the mountains or okanagan for trout, sorry man. I know there's stocked ponds around town. I'm hooked on the pike fight, it's an addiction!

How has the fishing been? We went out a few weeks ago and did well. Thinking of going this weekend, love this lake. Had some minor issues with other fisherman though:( Some think the lake is being overfished.

was out today for a few hours the lake has a lot of water on it (very slushy) , i just walked but there was vehicles driving on no one seemed to get stuck there was even some small car out driving on the lake

Hey all fishing people. Going out on a limb here. Getting a lil tired of people finding going to the bar or watching sports all day over the weekends more important and no one wants to go fishin anymore. Basically, I'm lookin for fishin pals to go with. I'm a 35 year old married momma who can commit to going on most occassions. I have most equipment, truck, quad, tent, power auger, and other small nic-nacs. Realistically I can go alone, but it can get rather boring. Just lookin for some friendly company, and I do not need instructions. Haven't been to this lake yet, but I have been to Cross Lake many times. I usually fish for perch. Anyway just thought I'd put myself out there as I am going through fishing fever big time!!

Just got back from Nakamun, caught close to 100 perch!!! Great day , all between 8-11 inches.

Went out over Christmas, it was a bit slower than last year. We caught around 30 and kept 6 for dinner. Heading back out there next week with group of jr. high students, hope we do well.

Look for the bays , and the weed points. Perch are lingering around in small schools, be patient and you will be rewarded !!

Go east of the camp, fish in 8-10 feet of water, use small lures tipped with maggots !!! Continue to move around until you find the school , good luck !!!

Lots of fish, even more people. All fish were in the 4-6 inch range. 8" are rare. Good lake for kids, that's about it.

Totally believe in fishing calendar. Every time I've remembered to look, even the bad days, it's been pretty accurate. Being using app on phone for three years. Try to plan around good days, but when get the itch and go on bad day, it sucks because u know its going to be slow, but u go out anyway. Lol.

Does anyone really believe in fishing calenders, solunar table,moon phases what about other factors atmospheric pressure, windy, cloudy. My take on this is if you don't try on the calenders bad days how would you know . Any feedback ???

Well a lot of fishing pressure can be good for a yellow perch population.

I've caught 10 - 12 inch perch in nakamum and they don't compare to the jumbo's you caught brother right on no doubt they are there I fished coal lake and caught jumbos 1 trip out of fifty outings keep it up we like the feedback

I consider any perch over 11" as a "jumbo" . They have quite the hump to them. But of course a lake you sled or quad into will have more quality and quantity . But I know first hand there are jumbos at Nak.

Cross lake has jumbos or island lake near Athabasca, I caught one at 1.9 oz there. Incredible perch fishing also at hubbles lake

What are some other good jumbo lakes snowman?

Snowman last year I caught 1lb .8 once and lots that were 12 once's to me a jumbo is at least 12 once's

Of course they do I spent days an hours searching the lake for "jumbos" an didnt get one over 10" which may be to you a "jumbo" but not to me.i have my lakes that has jumbos that ill save till feb march.mabey I missed a few square feet of the lake that they were all hiding.send me yur email an ill send ya pics of real jumbos.

So true YJ ! Pollution has such a fast and vast impact on a lake system . From the micro organisms to the pelicans! It would kill more fish than anglers could for sure . I usually fish for quality rather than quantity ! But all of us know even the smallest of female perch have eggs! In my opinion from what I've read and learned is that anglers play a smaller role. Maybe I'll get a government grant to answer the questions at hand . Cha Ching

you may have started a heated debate perch man a2 to 3 year old female perch will have 10000 to 40,000 eggs believe the only thing that will eliminate the perch is a winter kill having no white fish in nakamum lake who are notorious for consuming large amounts of eggs is a plus for survival of the perch pollution in our waters in my opinion is a bigger threat ie gas oil sewage !! again this is my opinion what do you think ???

The question of the day , " Can a lake this size sustain a legal limit of fish caught everyday for the average amount of anglers ? Of course assuming they know about possession limit and daily limit . Any thoughts guys and gals!

I got on the lake by camp nakamun on the quad, then headed toward the cabins in about 10ft of water. That's where I got the pike. Moved about halfway to that island in about 15ft and was on the perch. No humpbacks, but 7-8".

Hey Dwhodgie where about was the good perch fishing located?

Three small pike, lots of action on the perch. Kept 5 for dinner. Good first impression. Ice was good, there were a few trucks out. It's still a little sketchy for a 1ton, so I brought the quad.

Going tomorrow who's in let you know how we made out trying another technic that has been successful in the past for perch !!!

Oh ya I was able to drive right on lots of ice but in the middle lake there is flood water I wouldn't attempt go across to the other side just yet lots of people parking on shore and walking out

Limited out in an hour 8-9 inch perch got there 10:00 am left at 11:00 14 inches of ice. Caught 15 on Saturday biting very good caught one 11 inches

Pressure cracks and the weight of snow after the ice froze over we got lots of the white stuff the top water will freeze eventually happy fishin farmer we will see you out there sometime !!!

fishing yesterday not biting that much very small had to keepalmost everything had 6 over for a fish feed does enyone know why there is water on top of the ice there is lots of ice noone is going across the ice with their vehicles yet

I fished the lake last year I caught lots of 10-12 inchers but they are skinny perch no shoulders but I did here it had a little bit of a winter kill

I fished there a lot last winter an never saw a perch over 9",so I find it hard to believe you limited out on 10-12 " perch

yesterday caught limit my friend a few feet over caught none tryed different hooks biting but not hanging on not biting very good going saturday

Went today we limited out 10-12 inchers used red maggots

they were only about 8 inches long made for a good supper

caught just about our limit between 2 of us in 2 and a half hours

There is plenty of perch to be caught right bait right time if you are not successful there maybe other tactics you should be trying !! a tip 4lb test line !!!

Was out on Thursday, got a few small ones, this lake is not worth a real fishermans time IMO

Went out Saturday not even a single nibble 4 hrs fishin in the wind and rain. Second time out since the thaw here and not even a nibble

I was told by the Alberta fish and wildlife biologist that the lake hit winter kill oxygen level on mar 5 . Was out that day and really slow fishing. Lots on camera but were just drifting around at a very slow pace

Based on feedback my son would would have a blast. Dont have a boat though. Does anyone know if there are public docks to fish off of without upsetting the locals?

they should make a limit of like 5 or less fish per person. there is no reason for someone to keep 50 fish. if things keep going like this then the lake will shortly be out fished like alot of other alberta lakes.

Went out from noon till 4 tried 3 spots. Bunch of hooks. Different baits. And not a bite. Just one of those days

Went out about 5 hours, 4 different spots. Not even a single bite. Gorgeous day, but dissapointing lake.

6 of us caught about 32 and kept 8 decent sized ones nice day for fishing but need a 4x4 to get anywhere on the lake

Lots of ice well over 2.5 ft tons of snow on the ice 4x4 is necessary .. Lots of fish 52 keepers for the 4 of us and lots of throw backs.. And one tiny tiny jack fish

The weather sucked ass yesterday and never even got a bite in 3 hours, I know there's lots of fish in this lake but damn

First time fishing for perch and caught 30 and had 6 flags on tipups but only caught one hammer handle! Tiny perch but super fun

Got here around 2 pm and left 5:15 pm. Caught 14 purches and the biggest one is 10 inches. Saw pike on our under water camera!

There are two boat launches both on the south side of the lake... Look down on the nakamun page on here and it has boat launch locations. And yeah my friend and I set up a few tip ups around our perch holes and caught one pike around 6 lb and saw about an 8 lb pulled out earlier that day aswell. Great lake all around.

Took kids out had a blast. Also had a great fish fry perch fishin is the way to spend the day. Ice is good and got a pile of perch.

About 12-16" of ice on the lake. No snow. More than 12 vehicles out on the ice. Fishing was slow. Fished in 10-15' of water; close to the boat launch. Used yellow and red jig heads with maggots and small peices of minnow. Only caught 8 perch (fair size). Lots of bites around 11:00 am.

Perch were biting all day on Friday! Mostly little but enough keepers for a good feed.
